24 – 28 Feb. 2025Abu Dhabi10 – 14 Nov. 2025Dubai24 – 28 Nov. 2025Abu Dhabi

Course Objectives:

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

1. Fundamentals of Petroleum Product Storage, Loading, and Transport

  • Understand the role of storage, loading, and transportation in the petroleum supply chain.
  • Identify different petroleum products (gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, LPG, lubricants) and their handling requirements.
  • Recognize the importance of product quality control and contamination prevention.

2. Basics of Petroleum Product Storage Systems

  • Learn about different types of storage tanks and their applications:
    • Fixed Roof Tanks (For low-volatility products like diesel and lubricants).
    • Floating Roof Tanks (For volatile products like gasoline).
    • Pressurized Tanks (For LPG and volatile hydrocarbons).
    • Underground Storage Tanks (USTs) (For environmental and space-saving purposes).
  • Understand key design considerations:
    • Capacity planning and inventory management.
    • Vapor recovery and emissions control.
    • Safety features such as secondary containment and fire protection systems.

3. Loading and Unloading Operations

  • Understand different loading systems:
    • Truck and Rail Loading (Metering systems, loading arms, vapor recovery).
    • Pipeline Transfer (Custody transfer, metering, and pigging operations).
    • Marine Loading (Tankers, barges, and jetties).
  • Learn about product compatibility, blending considerations, and API gravity correction.
  • Implement safety measures to prevent spills, static electricity, and overfills.

4. Petroleum Product Transportation and Logistics

  • Learn about key transport methods and their design considerations:
    • Pipeline Transport (Batch sequencing, leak detection, pressure control).
    • Tanker Truck Transport (Safety measures, regulatory compliance, route planning).
    • Rail Transport (Tank car types, loading procedures, spill containment).
    • Marine Transport (Tanker classifications, ballast systems, international regulations).
  • Identify common challenges in fuel transportation and solutions to prevent product degradation.

5. Safety, Environmental, and Regulatory Compliance

  • Understand industry safety standards for petroleum product handling (API, OSHA, NFPA).
  • Identify environmental risks and control measures for fuel storage and transportation.
  • Learn best practices for spill prevention, containment, and emergency response.
  • Explore regulatory compliance requirements for emissions, fuel blending, and hazardous material transport.

6. Troubleshooting and Case Studies

  • Study real-world storage, loading, and transport incidents.
  • Develop problem-solving skills for common issues like contamination, overfills, and equipment malfunctions.
  • Implement best practices for maintenance, inspection, and risk management.
