20 – 24 Jan. 2025Abu Dhabi20 – 24 Oct. 2025Dubai03 – 07 Nov. 2025Abu Dhabi

Course Objectives:

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

1. Fundamentals of Crude Oil Storage, Loading, and Transport

  • Understand the importance of proper crude oil storage, loading, and transportation in the oil and gas supply chain.
  • Identify different types of crude oil and their storage requirements based on properties (API gravity, sulfur content, viscosity).
  • Explain key safety and environmental challenges in crude oil handling.

2. Crude Oil Storage Systems and Tank Design

  • Learn about different storage tank types and their applications:
    • Fixed Roof Tanks (For low-volatility crude).
    • Floating Roof Tanks (For minimizing vapor losses).
    • Spherical and Bullet Tanks (For pressurized storage).
    • Underground Storage (Salt caverns and lined rock caverns).
  • Understand tank design considerations, including:
    • Capacity and pressure ratings.
    • Materials selection for corrosion resistance.
    • Vapor recovery and emission control systems.
  • Learn best practices for tank cleaning, inspection, and maintenance.

3. Crude Oil Loading and Unloading Operations

  • Understand loading methods for crude oil:
    • Marine Loading (Tankers, Barges)
    • Pipeline Transfer
    • Railcar Loading
    • Truck Loading (Terminals and Distribution Centers)
  • Design and operation of loading arms, manifolds, and metering systems.
  • Implement safety measures for preventing overfilling, spills, and static electricity hazards.

4. Crude Oil Transportation Methods and Logistics

  • Learn about key crude oil transport modes and their design considerations:
    • Pipeline Transport (Onshore and offshore crude oil pipelines).
    • Tanker Transport (Crude carriers, VLCCs, ULCCs).
    • Rail Transport (Tank car design, regulatory requirements).
    • Truck Transport (Tank truck design and logistics).
  • Understand flow assurance challenges (wax deposition, hydrate formation, viscosity control).
  • Implement crude blending strategies for transportation efficiency.

5. Environmental, Safety, and Regulatory Compliance

  • Identify key environmental concerns related to crude oil storage and transportation.
  • Apply industry best practices for spill prevention and response.
  • Understand regulatory requirements for tank farm operations and crude oil transport (API, OSHA, EPA, IMO, DOT).
  • Learn about vapor recovery systems, leak detection, and emissions control technologies.

6. Troubleshooting and Case Studies

  • Study real-world storage, loading, and transport system failures.
  • Develop systematic problem-solving approaches for pipeline leaks, tank overfills, and contamination incidents.
  • Apply reliability and maintenance strategies to ensure long-term operational efficiency.
