Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

1. Introduction to Oilfield Analysis

  • Understand the importance of oilfield analysis in upstream operations.
  • Identify key parameters in reservoir, production, and fluid analysis.
  • Learn how oilfield data impacts decision-making in exploration and production (E&P).

2. Reservoir Characterization and Well Data Analysis

  • Interpret petrophysical data (porosity, permeability, saturation, lithology).
  • Analyze well logs (Gamma Ray, Resistivity, Sonic, Neutron-Density).
  • Utilize core analysis and formation testing data.

3. Crude Oil and Gas Fluid Analysis

  • Understand PVT (Pressure-Volume-Temperature) studies and phase behavior of reservoir fluids.
  • Conduct gas chromatography for hydrocarbon composition analysis.
  • Analyze crude oil properties (API gravity, viscosity, sulfur content, water cut, pour point, wax content).

4. Water Analysis in Oilfield Operations

  • Learn produced water characterization and its impact on operations.
  • Conduct total dissolved solids (TDS), pH, sulfate, chloride, and scaling potential analysis.
  • Optimize water injection and disposal through quality monitoring.

5. Production Data Interpretation and Performance Monitoring

  • Analyze well test data, decline curve analysis (DCA), and inflow performance relationships (IPR).
  • Monitor artificial lift performance (ESP, gas lift, rod pumps).
  • Evaluate flow assurance challenges (wax deposition, asphaltenes, hydrates, scale, and corrosion).

6. Oilfield Contaminant and Integrity Analysis

  • Identify microbiological contamination (SRB, APB) and MIC (Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion).
  • Conduct H₂S, CO₂, and mercury analysis for safety and pipeline integrity.
  • Implement corrosion monitoring and inhibitor effectiveness testing.

7. Wellbore and Surface Facility Analysis

  • Perform sand production monitoring and solids control analysis.
  • Use fluid separation efficiency tests in three-phase separators.
  • Ensure pipeline and facility integrity through pressure transient analysis (PTA) and leak detection systems.

8. Case Studies and Practical Applications

  • Review real-world examples of oilfield analysis challenges and solutions.
  • Participate in hands-on exercises for data interpretation and troubleshooting.
  • Develop a customized field analysis strategy for a specific reservoir or production system.
