Course Objectives:

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

1. Fundamentals of Oil Treatment, Stabilization, and Sweetening

    • Stage-wise Flashing and Distillation-based Stabilization
    • Separator and Flash Drum Design
    • Temperature and Pressure Control for optimal volatility reduction
  • Explore methods for light hydrocarbon recovery and minimizing vapor losses.
  • Analyze process integration for energy efficiency and product quality improvement.

3. Oil Sweetening Process and Technology Selection

  • Define sweetening and its role in removing sulfur contaminants.
  • Compare different sweetening methods, including:
    • Non-Regenerative Processes (Caustic Wash, Triazine Treatment, Liquid Redox)
    • Regenerative Processes (Amine Sweetening, Claus Process, Molecular Sieve Adsorption)
    • Catalytic Sweetening Techniques (MEROX Process, Hydro-Sweetening)
  • Design and optimize sweetening units based on crude oil composition and plant requirements.

4. Process Optimization and Performance Enhancement

  • Identify key process parameters affecting stabilization and sweetening efficiency.
  • Implement best practices for minimizing product losses and improving energy efficiency.
  • Explore automation and process control strategies for real-time monitoring.

5. Environmental, Safety, and Regulatory Compliance

  • Identify key environmental concerns related to oil stabilization and sweetening, including H₂S emissions and sour water generation.
  • Apply best practices for hazardous chemical handling, including caustic soda and amine solutions.
  • Understand regulatory requirements for crude oil sulfur limits and flaring restrictions.
  • Explore waste management strategies for spent caustic solutions and acid gas treatment.

6. Troubleshooting and Case Studies

  • Study real-world oil treatment system failures and troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Develop systematic problem-solving approaches for process upsets, equipment failures, and off-spec products.
  • Apply reliability and maintenance strategies to ensure continuous and efficient operations.
