The Evolution of ISO Standards: Understanding Annex SL
| 26 – 30 Jan. 2026, Dubai | 21 – 25 Dec. 2026, Abu Dhabi |
COURSE OVERVIEW:
In recent years, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) introduced "Annex SL," a high-level structure (HLS) that provides a universal framework for all new and revised management system standards. This course explores the evolution of ISO standards and provides an in-depth understanding of how this common structure facilitates the integration of multiple systems, such as Quality (ISO 9001), Environment (ISO 14001), and Health and Safety (ISO 45001). Participants will learn the logic behind the synchronized terminology and core requirements that now govern global organizational excellence.
The scope of this training involves a clause-by-clause analysis of the High-Level Structure, from "Context of the Organization" to "Improvement." Attendees will examine how Annex SL eliminates the silos often found in multi-standard environments, allowing for a single, unified management system. The curriculum focuses on the strategic intent of the new structure, emphasizing leadership, risk-based thinking, and the process approach as the foundational pillars for all modern ISO standards.
Coverage includes the historical transition from the old, siloed formats to the current integrated model and the specific impact this has on documentation and auditing. Participants will explore the shared definitions and common text that simplify the implementation of integrated management systems (IMS). By the end of this course, attendees will be able to navigate any Annex SL-based standard with ease, enabling them to lead more efficient implementations and more effective internal audits across diverse organizational disciplines.
