ISO 17025 Requirements for Laboratories

08 – 12 June 2026, Abu Dhabi31 Aug. – 04 Sep. 2026, Dubai

COURSE OVERVIEW:

ISO 17025 is the global benchmark for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories, ensuring that facilities produce technically valid results and maintain a robust quality system. This course provides a deep dive into the general requirements for the competence, impartiality, and consistent operation of laboratories, aligning technical proficiency with management excellence. By adhering to these international standards, laboratories can foster global confidence in their data and facilitate the acceptance of test reports across international borders.

The scope of this training encompasses the transition from purely procedural management to a risk-based approach, which is the cornerstone of the updated revision. Participants will explore the technical requirements of the standard, including personnel competence, environmental conditions, and the selection and verification of methods. The curriculum also addresses the critical "structural" and "resource" requirements, ensuring that the laboratory's organizational framework supports technical integrity and operational independence.

Coverage includes the laboratory process requirements, moving from the initial review of requests and tenders to the final reporting of results and the management of nonconforming work. Attendees will learn how to quantify measurement uncertainty, ensure metrological traceability, and implement quality control schemes. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to evaluate laboratory workflows against the standard's rigorous criteria, driving improvements in data accuracy and laboratory reliability.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  • Interpret the specific requirements of ISO 17025 for testing and calibration labs.
  • Understand the importance of impartiality and confidentiality in laboratory operations.
  • Define the structural requirements for laboratory organization and management.
  • Evaluate the adequacy of laboratory resources, including personnel, facilities, and equipment.
  • Implement a robust system for metrological traceability and equipment calibration.
  • Develop protocols for the selection, verification, and validation of laboratory methods.
  • Apply risk-based thinking to laboratory processes and technical decision-making.
  • Calculate and report measurement uncertainty in accordance with international guidelines.
  • Design and monitor internal quality control and external proficiency testing schemes.
  • Manage the lifecycle of laboratory samples from receipt to final disposal.
  • Formulate technically accurate and compliant test reports and calibration certificates.
  • Facilitate continuous improvement through effective management reviews and corrective actions.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

Laboratory Managers, Technical Supervisors, Quality Coordinators, Calibration Technicians, Laboratory Analysts, and Accreditation Consultants.

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximize the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.
