Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) for ISO 45001

05 – 09 Jan. 2026, Abu Dhabi06 – 10 July 2026, Abu Dhabi

COURSE OVERVIEW:

Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) is the fundamental process upon which an effective Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OH&SMS) is built. This course provides a comprehensive guide to identifying workplace hazards and evaluating associated risks in accordance with the ISO 45001:2018 standard. Participants will learn how to proactively manage safety by analyzing routine and non-routine activities to prevent injuries and ill health before they occur.

The scope of this training involves the application of the "Hierarchy of Controls" to mitigate identified risks. Attendees will explore various hazard categories, including physical, chemical, biological, ergonomic, and psychosocial factors. The curriculum emphasizes the transition from a reactive "accident investigation" culture to a proactive "risk-based thinking" culture. By mastering HIRA, organizations can ensure legal compliance while fostering a safer, more productive environment for all employees and contractors.

Coverage includes the methodology for constructing a Risk Register, the use of qualitative and quantitative risk matrices, and the importance of worker participation in the assessment process. The course also addresses how to evaluate "opportunities" for OH&S improvement, which is a unique requirement of the ISO 45001 standard. Participants will gain practical experience in conducting site walk-throughs and utilizing assessment tools that can be immediately applied to their specific industrial or corporate context.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  • Define the key requirements of ISO 45001 Clause 6.1.2.

  • Identify diverse hazard types: Physical, Chemical, Biological, and Psychosocial.
  • Analyze risks for routine, non-routine, and emergency activities.
