Environmental Aspect and Impact Assessment (ISO 14001 Focus)
| 09 – 13 Feb. 2026, Dubai | 02 – 06 Nov. 2026, Abu Dhabi |
COURSE OVERVIEW:
The core of an effective Environmental Management System (EMS) lies in the ability to accurately identify how an organization’s activities interact with the environment. This course provides a technical deep dive into the process of Environmental Aspect and Impact Assessment, a mandatory requirement of ISO 14001:2015. Participants will learn how to systematically evaluate their operations through a "Life Cycle Perspective," ensuring that environmental risks are managed from procurement through to end-of-life disposal.
The scope of this training covers the methodology for identifying environmental aspects (causes) and their associated impacts (effects) under normal, abnormal, and emergency conditions. Attendees will master various significance evaluation techniques to prioritize which environmental issues require immediate control or objective setting. The curriculum emphasizes the bridge between technical assessment and strategic planning, showing how identified aspects influence an organization’s environmental policy and legal compliance obligations.
Coverage includes practical tools for mapping processes, quantifying resource consumption, and assessing emissions, discharges, and waste streams. The course explores how to integrate environmental considerations into product design and service delivery. By the end of the program, participants will be able to build and maintain a robust "Aspect-Impact Register" that serves as a dynamic roadmap for reducing an organization’s ecological footprint and improving overall environmental performance.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Define Environmental Aspects and Impacts according to ISO 14001:2015.
- Apply a Life Cycle Perspective to identify aspects beyond the facility gates.
- Distinguish between direct aspects and those the organization can only influence.
- Conduct a comprehensive site survey to identify hidden environmental risks.
- Categorize aspects into emissions, discharges, waste, and resource usage.
- Evaluate aspects under normal, abnormal, and emergency operating conditions.
- Develop a consistent criteria-based system for determining "Significance."
- Link significant environmental aspects to operational control procedures.
- Align the aspect assessment with legal and other compliance requirements.
- Use the assessment results to set meaningful environmental objectives and targets.
- Maintain and update the Aspect-Impact Register in response to organizational changes.
- Communicate environmental risks effectively to employees and external stakeholders.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
Environmental Officers, EHS Managers, ISO 14001 Internal Auditors, Facilities Managers, Sustainability Coordinators, and Operations Managers.
TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:
A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximize the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.
The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
