Project Planning and Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)

02 – 06 Feb. 2026, Abu Dhabi03 – 07 Aug. 2026, Cairo

COURSE OVERVIEW:

The foundation of every successful project is a clear and comprehensive definition of the work to be performed. This course provides a technical framework for mastering "Project Planning" and the development of the "Work Breakdown Structure" (WBS), which serves as the skeletal framework for all project control systems. It focuses on the strategic importance of decomposing complex project objectives into manageable "Work Packages" that can be accurately scheduled, budgeted, and assigned.

The scope of this training encompasses the application of "Deliverable-Oriented" WBS construction, the creation of "WBS Dictionaries," and the integration of the WBS with the project schedule and budget. Participants will learn how to avoid "Scope Creep," manage "Interface Risks," and utilize the WBS as a primary tool for "Stakeholder Communication." The course addresses the complexities of "Large-Scale Programs" and provides practical tools for maintaining "Scope Integrity" throughout the project lifecycle.

Coverage includes the analysis of "Top-Down" versus "Bottom-Up" planning, the implementation of "Milestone" tracking, and the execution of "Planning Workshops." Attendees will explore the utilization of "Control Accounts" and learn how the WBS interacts with "Responsibility Assignment Matrices" (RAM). By mastering project planning and the WBS, professionals will be able to provide the clarity and structure required to transform project vision into a concrete and executable reality.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  • Design a "Deliverable-Oriented" Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).
  • Execute the "Decomposition" process to create "Work Packages."
  • Draft comprehensive "WBS Dictionaries" for all project elements.
  • Integrate the WBS with the "Project Schedule" and "Budget."
  • Utilize the WBS to prevent "Scope Creep" and unauthorized work.
  • Develop a "Responsibility Assignment Matrix" (RAM) using the WBS.
  • Establish "Control Accounts" for performance measurement.
  • Facilitate "Planning Workshops" with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Apply WBS principles to "Agile" and "Predictive" project models.
  • Use the WBS as a "Common Language" for stakeholder reporting.
  • Map "Interface Points" between different WBS branches.
  • Audit the WBS for "Completeness" and "Mutual Exclusivity."
