Project Economics for Non-Economists

04 – 08 May 2026, Dubai31 Aug. – 04 Sep. 2026, Abu Dhabi

COURSE OVERVIEW:

The success of a project is ultimately measured by its economic viability and the value it adds to the organization. This course provides a practical framework for project professionals who lack a formal background in finance but need to understand the economic drivers behind capital investment decisions. It focuses on the strategic importance of aligning technical project goals with financial performance metrics to ensure that projects are not just completed, but are commercially successful.

The scope of this training encompasses the fundamental concepts of the "Time Value of Money," the mechanics of "Net Present Value" (NPV), and the interpretation of "Internal Rate of Return" (IRR). Participants will learn how to build simple financial models, evaluate different investment scenarios, and understand the impact of "Inflation" and "Discount Rates" on project feasibility. The course addresses the complexities of "Budgeting" and "Cash Flow Management," providing practical tools for monitoring the financial health of a project throughout its lifecycle.

Coverage includes the analysis of "Capital Expenditure" (CAPEX) versus "Operating Expenditure" (OPEX), the implementation of "Cost-Benefit Analysis" (CBA), and the execution of "Sensitivity Analysis" for risk assessment. Attendees will explore the "Business Case" development process and learn how to communicate financial performance to executive stakeholders using professional terminology. By mastering these economic principles, non-economists will be able to contribute more effectively to strategic decision-making and safeguard the financial interests of their projects.
