Mastering Data Sheets and P&IDs for Project Management Success

27 Apr. – 01 May 2026, Abu Dhabi21 – 25 Sep. 2026, Dubai

COURSE OVERVIEW:

The ability to accurately interpret and manage technical documentation is the cornerstone of effective project control in the engineering and industrial sectors. This course provides a comprehensive roadmap for mastering the two most critical documents in the project lifecycle: the Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) and the Technical Data Sheet. It focuses on the strategic importance of these documents in defining the technical baseline and ensuring that procurement, construction, and safety requirements are perfectly aligned.

The scope of this training encompasses the standardized symbology, layout conventions, and logical flow of P&IDs, alongside the detailed specification parameters found in equipment data sheets. Participants will learn how to identify process boundaries, control loops, and safety-critical elements while ensuring that data sheets reflect the exact operational requirements of the asset. The course addresses the lifecycle of these documents, providing practical tools for managing "As-Built" updates and the "Management of Change" process.

Coverage includes the analysis of international standards such as ISA and ISO for symbology, the utilization of "Intelligent P&IDs" in digital engineering, and the synchronization of data sheets with vendor technical bids. Attendees will explore the critical link between these documents and the "HazOp" process, learning how to spot design inconsistencies before they become site issues. By mastering P&IDs and data sheets, professionals will be able to drive project success through superior technical clarity and rigorous documentation control.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  • Interpret complex Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) with precision.
  • Decode standardized ISA and ISO symbols for instruments and valves.
  • Analyze the technical parameters and tolerances within Equipment Data Sheets.
  • Utilize P&IDs to identify the project’s technical and physical boundaries.
  • Synchronize Data Sheets with procurement and vendor technical evaluations.
  • Manage the "Red-Lining" and "As-Built" documentation update processes.
  • Identify control loops, interlocks, and safety-critical elements on P&IDs.
  • Apply "Management of Change" (MOC) protocols to technical drawings.
  • Utilize P&IDs as the primary tool for HazOp and safety study preparation.
  • Ensure consistency between Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and P&IDs.
  • Master the documentation hierarchy within the Project Master Database.
  • Audit technical drawings for compliance with project-specific standards.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

This course is intended for Project Managers, Project Engineers, Procurement Officers, Commissioning Leads, and Document Control Specialists.

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximize the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
