Mastering Construction at Brownfield Sites: Understanding the Unique Requirements

20 – 24 Apr. 2026, Dubai14 – 18 Sep. 2026, Abu Dhabi

COURSE OVERVIEW:

Construction within "Brownfield" environments, active or previously developed industrial sites, presents a unique set of challenges that differ fundamentally from "Greenfield" projects. This course provides a comprehensive framework for managing the complexities of working around existing infrastructure, live production systems, and potential legacy contamination. It focuses on the strategic integration of new construction with operational assets, ensuring that project goals are achieved without compromising the safety or integrity of the existing facility.

The scope of this training encompasses the technical execution of "Tie-ins," the management of "Simultaneous Operations" (SIMOPS), and the navigation of "Permit to Work" (PTW) systems within live plants. Participants will learn how to conduct thorough "As-Built" verification, manage "Unknown" underground obstructions, and implement rigorous "Interface Management." The course addresses the complexities of "Shutdown and Turnaround" (TAR) planning and provides practical tools for mitigating the risks of working in hazardous industrial environments.

Coverage includes the analysis of "Legacy Contamination" and remediation, the utilization of "Laser Scanning" for accurate site mapping, and the implementation of "Hot Work" controls in flammable zones. Attendees will explore the human factors of "Construction-Operations" friction and learn how to foster collaborative safety cultures. By mastering Brownfield construction, professionals will be able to deliver complex modifications and expansions with minimal disruption to ongoing business and maximum adherence to industrial safety standards.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  • Identify the unique risks and constraints of Brownfield environments.
  • Manage "Simultaneous Operations" (SIMOPS) between construction and operations.
  • Navigate and oversee the "Permit to Work" (PTW) system in live plants.
  • Conduct rigorous "As-Built" verification and site surveys.
  • Plan and execute technical "Tie-ins" and "Hot Taps" safely.
  • Manage "Unknown Underground" services and obstructions.
  • Implement "Interface Management" between new and old systems.
  • Mitigate the risks of "Legacy Contamination" and hazardous waste.
  • Utilize "Laser Scanning" and 3D modeling for Brownfield design.
  • Coordinate construction activities with "Shutdown and Turnaround" (TAR).
  • Foster a collaborative safety culture between contractors and operators.
  • Ensure minimal disruption to active production during construction.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

This course is intended for Construction Managers, Site Engineers, Brownfield Project Leads, HSE Specialists, and Operations Liaison Officers.

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximize the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
