Applying Project Control: Project Monitoring, Reporting, and Control
| 23 – 27 Mar. 2026, Abu Dhabi | 17 – 21 Aug. 2026, Abu Dhabi |
COURSE OVERVIEW:
Effective project control is the engine that drives project predictability and prevents the common pitfalls of cost overruns and schedule slippage. This course provides a technical and practical foundation in the systems used to monitor project performance and maintain control over complex variables. It focuses on the discipline of transforming raw project data into actionable intelligence that allows managers to intervene early and steer projects back to their planned trajectories.
The scope of this training covers the implementation of integrated control systems that link scope, time, cost, and quality into a unified monitoring framework. Participants will explore the mechanics of progress measurement, from physical percent complete to weighted milestone tracking, ensuring that reporting reflects the true status of the work. The course also emphasizes the importance of a robust baseline and the rigorous change management processes required to maintain the integrity of project plans in a dynamic environment.
Coverage includes the mastery of Earned Value Management (EVM) for trend analysis and forecasting, the development of visual dashboards for executive reporting, and the use of variance analysis to identify root causes of performance deviations. Attendees will learn how to facilitate effective progress meetings and utilize project management information systems (PMIS) to automate data collection and reporting. By the end of the course, professionals will have the skills to implement a "no surprises" culture through disciplined monitoring and proactive control.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Establish comprehensive project baselines for scope, schedule, and cost.
- Implement integrated project control systems and procedures.
- Apply physical progress measurement techniques across various project types.
- Execute Earned Value Management (EVM) to analyze project performance.
- Calculate and interpret Schedule and Cost Performance Indices (SPI and CPI).
- Forecast project completion dates and final costs (EAC and ETC).
- Conduct rigorous variance analysis to identify and correct performance gaps.
- Develop professional project reports and visual performance dashboards.
- Manage the project change control process to maintain baseline integrity.
- Facilitate effective progress reviews and performance meetings.
- Utilize project control software for data integration and analysis.
- Monitor project risks and their impact on cost and schedule performance.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
This course is intended for Project Controllers, Planning and Scheduling Engineers, Cost Engineers, Project Managers, and Team Leaders who need to master the technical aspects of project monitoring and reporting.
TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:
A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximize the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.
The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
