Treating and Sulphur Recovering Operation

06 – 10 Apr. 2026, Cairo31 Aug. – 04 Sep. 2026, Abu Dhabi

COURSE OVERVIEW:

This course will provide participants with a solid understanding of treating and sulphur recovering operations in oil and gas processing facilities. It introduces the fundamental principles of gas treating, amine sweetening, mercaptan extraction and conversion, and sulphur recovery unit operation. Emphasis is placed on how these processes fit into the overall production scheme, how operating conditions influence performance and product quality, and how to operate systems safely, efficiently, and in compliance with environmental requirements. The course combines conceptual explanations with practical examples, typical operating problems, and basic troubleshooting approaches suitable for operations personnel.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of the course, the participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the role of gas treating and sulphur recovery within oil and gas production and processing facilities.
  2. Describe the basic chemistry and principles behind acid gas removal, mercaptan extraction, and mercaptan conversion.
  3. Explain the fundamentals of amine treating systems, including key equipment, process flow, and operating variables.
  4. Identify the main steps of mercaptan extraction and conversion processes used for sweetening liquid hydrocarbons.
  5. Describe the principles and main stages of sulphur recovery, with emphasis on the Claus process and typical tail gas treatment concepts at an introductory level.
  6. Recognize the main items of equipment used in treating and sulphur recovery units and describe their purpose and basic operation.
  7. Interpret key operating parameters and trends to maintain safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant operation of treating and sulphur recovery systems.
  8. Apply basic troubleshooting approaches to common operating issues in amine units, mercaptan treating systems, and sulphur recovery units.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

-Operations professionals working in gas processing and treating facilities

-Panel and field operators involved in amine, mercaptan treating, and sulphur recovery units

-Operations engineers and shift supervisors supporting treating and sulphur recovery operations

-Maintenance and inspection personnel who interact with treating and sulphur recovery equipment

-HSE and process support staff requiring a better understanding of treating and sulphur recovery processes

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures and discussion sessions, as well as case studies, will be managed to maximize the amount and quality of information, knowledge, and experience transfer. The course will be intensive but practical and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance learning. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and after the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
