Tanks and Vessels Used for Storage

23 – 27 Mar. 2026, Abu Dhabi17 – 21 Aug. 2026, Abu Dhabi

COURSE OVERVIEW:

This course will provide participants with a clear and practical understanding of the various types of non-pressurized, pressurized, and refrigerated storage tanks and vessels used in oil, gas, petrochemical, and related industries. The course explains how different designs are selected, how they operate, and how they are integrated into storage and handling systems. Emphasis is placed on design concepts, selection criteria, operating envelopes, safety and protection devices, and good operating and maintenance practices to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient storage operations. The sessions will combine technical explanations with real world examples, discussion, and simple problem solving.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the main types of storage tanks and vessels, including non-pressurized, pressurized, and refrigerated designs, and their typical applications.
  2. Explain the basic design principles, codes, and standards that govern the selection and design of tanks and vessels.
  3. Identify the key components and internal features of storage tanks and vessels and explain their functions.
  4. Distinguish between non pressurized, pressurized, and refrigerated storage requirements and select appropriate tank or vessel types for each service.
  5. Describe the operating parameters and limits for different tank and vessel types and their impact on safety, integrity, and performance.
  6. Recognize the typical safety and protection systems associated with tanks and vessels, including over pressure protection, venting, emergency systems, and secondary containment.
  7. Interpret basic operating data and field observations to identify abnormal conditions and initiate appropriate corrective actions.
  8. Coordinate with operations, maintenance, and safety teams to implement safe work practices, inspection plans, and improvement actions for storage systems.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

-Operations professionals involved in storage and handling of hydrocarbons and chemicals

-Operations engineers and field engineers

-Control room and panel operators

-Maintenance technicians and supervisors dealing with tanks and vessels

-Safety and loss prevention personnel

-Technical supervisory staff and new graduates assigned to storage facilities

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures and discussion sessions, as well as case studies, will be managed to maximize the amount and quality of information, knowledge, and experience transfer. The course will be intensive but practical and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance learning. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and after the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
