Refinery Asset Knowledge

13 – 17 Apr. 2026, Dubai10 – 14 Aug. 2026, Abu Dhabi

COURSE OVERVIEW:

This comprehensive course, focusing on Refinery Asset Knowledge, provides a structured understanding of the technical and business considerations involved in operating refinery assets throughout their life cycle. Participants will explore the major refinery process units, utility systems and supporting infrastructure, and understand how they integrate to create value from crude oil to finished products.

The course explains how refinery configuration, process schemes and asset capability impact product slate, margins and competitiveness. It also addresses reliability, integrity, safety and environmental performance as key value drivers, and demonstrates how day-to-day operating decisions affect asset performance and long-term profitability.

Participants will examine how capital projects, revamps and technology changes enhance asset value, and how economic analysis and performance indicators are used to support investment and operating decisions. Practical exercises and case studies will reinforce the links between technical operation, business performance, and strategic asset management in a refinery context.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the main refinery assets, process units and supporting systems, and explain how they work together in an integrated refinery complex.
  2. Understand the key technical considerations in operating refinery assets, including process constraints, equipment limitations and product quality requirements.
  3. Explain how refinery configuration, crude selection and product specifications affect refinery economics and asset utilization.
  4. Interpret key refinery performance indicators related to throughput, yields, energy, reliability, safety and environment.
  5. Recognize the main risks to refinery assets, including corrosion, fouling, equipment failure and process safety hazards, and their impact on business performance.
  6. Relate maintenance, inspection and integrity management activities to asset availability and lifecycle value.
  7. Understand the business drivers behind capital projects, debottlenecking and technology upgrades in refinery assets.
  8. Contribute more effectively to discussions and decisions on refinery operations, optimization and investment from both technical and business perspectives.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

-Process and operations engineers

-Asset, reliability and integrity engineers
