Process Technology for Petrochemicals
| 11 – 15 May 2026, Sharm El Shaikh | 05 – 09 Oct. 2026, Abu Dhabi |
COURSE OVERVIEW:
This comprehensive course, focusing on Process Technology for Petrochemicals - Basics, delves deep into the fundamental concepts of petrochemical process technology. Participants will understand how petrochemical plants convert feedstocks such as natural gas liquids and refinery streams into key building block chemicals and downstream products. The course introduces the main petrochemical value chains, core process routes, and typical unit operations used in petrochemical complexes.
Emphasis is placed on helping engineers and operational staff understand overall process schemes rather than detailed design, so they can better interpret process flow diagrams, recognize how different units interact, and relate operating conditions to product quality, throughput, and energy use. Participants will engage in practical exercises and case studies to apply the concepts learned using simplified process flow diagrams and realistic operating scenarios.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Describe the role of petrochemicals in the broader oil, gas, and refining value chain.
- Explain the basic principles of Process Technology for Petrochemicals - Basics and how they apply in modern petrochemical complexes.
- Identify key petrochemical feedstocks and discuss how they influence process selection and configuration.
- Outline the main process routes for producing core petrochemicals such as ethylene, propylene, aromatics, and basic polymers at a conceptual level.
- Interpret simplified process flow diagrams for typical petrochemical units and explain the main function of each section.
- Recognize key operating variables and constraints that affect capacity, product quality, and energy consumption in petrochemical plants.
- Relate common operating problems in petrochemical processes to underlying process technology issues.
- Understand supporting utility and offsite systems required for petrochemical operations and their process implications.
- Know the key health, safety, and environmental considerations associated with petrochemical processes from a process technology viewpoint.
- Apply Process Technology for Petrochemicals - Basics techniques and concepts in real world scenarios, discussions, and case studies.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
-Engineers new to petrochemical operations or projects
-Process Engineers
-Operations Engineers and Senior Operators in petrochemical units
-Technical support staff working in petrochemical complexes
-Maintenance and Reliability Personnel seeking better process understanding
-New joiners to oil, gas, and petrochemical processing facilities
TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:
A highly interactive combination of lectures and discussion sessions, as well as case studies, will be managed to maximize the amount and quality of information, knowledge, and experience transfer. The course will be intensive but practical and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance learning. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.
The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and after the course.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
