COURSE OVERVIEW:
The course will provide the participants with the knowledge and practical tools to enhance the company’s turnaround management capabilities and to ensure a strong team approach in the planning and execution of plant start up and shutdown activities.
Participants will learn how to plan and execute startups and shutdowns in a structured way, how to integrate these events into broader turnaround management programs, and how to coordinate multiple disciplines for safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations. The course will also cover planning methods, integrated organizational approaches, effective turnaround management techniques, and the latest developments and emerging industry trends in turnaround planning and management.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Explain the role of plant startups, shutdowns, and turnarounds in overall asset and business performance.
- Plan the complete process of plant start up and shutdowns, from concept and preparation through execution and post event review.
- Apply effective turnaround management techniques and implementation practices to real plant situations.
- Use planning methods that support an integrated organizational approach, ensuring that operations, maintenance, projects, and health, safety and environment functions work as one team.
- Define clear objectives, scope, and success criteria for plant startups, shutdowns, and turnarounds.
- Develop realistic, logic-based schedules for startup and shutdown activities, including critical path activities and contingency plans.
- Coordinate safety, risk management, permits, and isolation requirements during start up and shutdown windows.
- Monitor execution performance, control changes, and address emerging issues during plant startups and shutdowns.
- Conduct structured post start up and post shutdown reviews and capture lessons learned for future improvement.
- Describe the latest developments in turnaround planning and management techniques and recognize emerging industry trends relevant to their facilities.

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:
A highly interactive combination of lectures and discussion sessions, as well as case studies, will be managed to maximize the amount and quality of information, knowledge, and experience transfer. The course will be intensive but practical and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance learning. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.
The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and after the course.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
