Oil-Gas-Water Three-phase Separation Fundamentals

30 Mar. – 03 Apr. 2026, Abu Dhabi21 – 25 Dec. 2026, Dubai

COURSE OVERVIEW:

This training course aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills required to understand and operate three phase separators effectively in oil and gas production operations. By covering the fundamentals of three phase separation, phase behavior, separator internals, design considerations, operational requirements, maintenance practices, and environmental and safety considerations, participants will be better prepared to ensure efficient and reliable separation of oil, gas, and water phases. The course links process principles with day-to-day operation, monitoring, and basic troubleshooting so that participants can contribute to stable production, equipment protection, and compliance with operating standards.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  1. Provide a comprehensive understanding of three phase separation processes in the oil and gas industry.
  2. Explain the basic principles behind the operation of three phase separators, including density difference, residence time, and droplet settling.
  3. Identify the key components and design considerations of three phase separators and describe their functions.
  4. Understand the operational requirements and challenges associated with three phase separation under different field conditions.
  5. Develop skills to ensure efficient and effective operation of three phase separators through proper monitoring and adjustment of operating parameters.
  6. Recognize common operating problems in three phase separators and apply basic troubleshooting approaches.
  7. Understand how separator operation affects downstream equipment, dehydration, desalting, and produced water treatment.
  8. Describe the basic maintenance and inspection needs of three phase separators from an operations perspective.
  9. Identify environmental and safety considerations related to oil, gas, and water separation and handling.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

-Engineers and technicians involved in oil and gas production operations

-Plant operators working on separation and production facilities

-Process engineers supporting production and facility optimization

-Maintenance personnel supporting separator equipment and internals

-Safety professionals who need an understanding of three phase separation in operations

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures and discussion sessions, as well as case studies, will be managed to maximize the amount and quality of information, knowledge, and experience transfer. The course will be intensive but practical and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance learning. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and after the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
