Oil Field Surface Facility Operations

15 – 19 June 2026, Abu Dhabi05 – 09 Oct. 2026, Abu Dhabi

COURSE OVERVIEW

This course provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of oil field surface facilities and their operational activities. It focuses on the fundamental systems used in crude oil production, treatment, and storage including phase separation, metering systems, and tank farm operations.

Participants will gain insight into the equipment, instrumentation, and operational procedures used in surface facilities, from the wellhead to the export point. The course emphasizes the interaction between field and control room operations, the importance of maintaining crude oil sales specifications, and the application of safety and maintenance best practices.

By combining theoretical instruction with real-world operational case studies, this training aims to build a strong foundation for operators, technicians, and supervisors involved in oil production facilities and surface process operations.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

After completion of the course, the participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the basic layout and functions of surface facilities in oil fields.
  2. Explain the oil well production process and initial treatment requirements.
  3. Recognize the importance of crude oil sales specifications and how they are maintained.
  4. Describe the principles and operation of phase separation equipment, including two-phase and three-phase separators.
  5. Identify different types of separator internals and their functions in optimizing separation efficiency.
  6. Understand the configuration and working principles of metering systems for crude oil and gas.
  7. Gain knowledge of tank farm operations, including tank types, storage procedures, and safety practices.
  8. Learn proper procedures for tank cleaning, inspection, and maintenance.
  9. Develop operational awareness of control room monitoring systems and coordination with field operations.
  10. Apply safe operating practices and troubleshooting skills in daily surface facility operations.

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY

A highly interactive combination of lectures and discussion sessions, as well as case studies, will be managed to maximize the amount and quality of information, knowledge, and experience transfer. The course will be intensive but practical and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance learning. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and after the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
