Introduction to Advanced Process Control (APC) Applications
| 26 – 30 Jan. 2026, Dubai | 21 – 25 Dec. 2026, Abu Dhabi |
COURSE OVERVIEW:
This course introduces participants to the concepts and practical applications of Advanced Process Control (APC) in modern process industries. It starts with a refresher on basic process control principles and loop tuning, then gradually builds up to more advanced control strategies, including multivariable control, model-based control, and the role of final control elements and digital control systems in achieving stable and optimized plant operation. The course focuses on how APC improves process stability, product quality, energy efficiency, and constraint handling, using practical examples and case-based discussions.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Describe the fundamentals of process control, including process dynamics, feedback, and control loop components.
- Explain the purpose and structure of basic control loops and the role of controllers, final control elements, and measurement devices.
- Apply basic loop tuning concepts and methods to improve control loop stability and performance.
- Identify the key elements that distinguish an advanced control loop from a basic control loop.
- Explain the principles behind common advanced control algorithms, including cascade, feedforward, and model-based control.
- Describe the basic concepts of multivariable control and its role in handling interactions and constraints.
- Recognize how APC is implemented on digital control systems and how it interfaces with regulatory control.
- Relate APC functions to improved plant safety, reliability, quality, and energy performance.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
-Instrumentation and control professionals
-Control room and panel operators
-Process engineers and production engineers
-Maintenance and reliability engineers involved with control systems
-Junior APC engineers and DCS engineers
-Technical staff who support operations and performance improvement activities
TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:
A highly interactive combination of lectures and discussion sessions, as well as case studies, will be managed to maximize the amount and quality of information, knowledge, and experience transfer. The course will be intensive but practical and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance learning. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.
The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and after the course.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
