COURSE OVERVIEW:
This course provides an in-depth insight into the framework for HAZOP within the wider Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Management System. It is designed to strengthen the effectiveness of HAZOP studies and to foster a creative, open and rigorous environment during workshops. Participants will gain a detailed understanding of how HAZOP fits within process safety management, how to identify and structure hazards, and how to contribute effectively as a HAZOP team member.
The course covers HAZOP methodology, team roles, guide words, documentation, Safety Instrumented Systems and Safety Integrity Levels, as well as audit and follow up requirements. Practical examples and workshop style exercises will help participants build confidence in participating in, and adding value to, real HAZOP studies.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Explain the purpose, scope and key concepts of HAZOP within the context of process safety and HSE Management Systems.
- Describe the elements of process safety management that interface with HAZOP studies, including risk assessment, management of change and operating procedures.
- Apply structured hazard identification techniques and understand when HAZOP is the appropriate tool.
- Follow and apply the HAZOP methodology step by step, including node selection, deviation identification, cause and consequence analysis, safeguards and recommendation development.
- Fulfil the responsibilities of a HAZOP team member, understanding the roles of the facilitator, scribe, discipline specialists and operations representatives.
- Use HAZOP guide words effectively to stimulate systematic and creative identification of deviations.
- Recognize the relationship between HAZOP findings and Safety Instrumented Systems, Safety Integrity Levels and other layers of protection.
- Contribute to high quality HAZOP documentation, records and close out of actions, and understand the role of audits in maintaining HAZOP quality over time.

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:
A highly interactive combination of lectures and discussion sessions, as well as case studies, will be managed to maximize the amount and quality of information, knowledge, and experience transfer. The course will be intensive but practical and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance learning. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.
The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and after the course.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
