Filters and Strainers System Isolation and Deisolation

COURSE OVERVIEW:

This course provides participants with a solid understanding of filters and strainers used in oil, gas, and industrial facilities, with special focus on safe isolation and deisolation practices. It covers the functions of strainers, types and classifications, typical applications, basket and element designs, filter and strainer cleaning methods, draining and purging practices, and the operation of backwash and automatic systems. Participants will also learn how to monitor performance, identify common problems, and apply structured troubleshooting techniques, including arranging timely replacement of elements and ensuring systems are safely returned to service after maintenance.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the purpose and functions of filters and strainers in protecting equipment and improving system reliability.
  2. Identify major strainer and filter types and classifications, and describe their typical applications in process, utility, and service systems.
  3. Describe the construction and operating principles of baskets and elements used in strainers and filters.
  4. Apply correct procedures for filter and strainer cleaning, draining, purging, and return to service.
  5. Follow safe and systematic steps for isolation and deisolation of filters and strainers in accordance with site procedures.
  6. Describe the basic design, operation, and sequences of backwash and automatic filter and strainer systems.
  7. Monitor the performance of filters and strainers using differential pressure, flow, and visual indications.
  8. Troubleshoot common filter and strainer problems and determine appropriate corrective actions.
  9. Arrange for timely replacement of filters and strainers that are not performing efficiently and coordinate with maintenance teams.
  10. Apply relevant HSE requirements and safe work practices during filter and strainer isolation, cleaning, and maintenance activities.

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures and discussion sessions, as well as case studies, will be managed to maximize the amount and quality of information, knowledge, and experience transfer. The course will be intensive but practical and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance learning. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

 

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and after the course.

 

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
