Elements of Applied Process Engineering

20 – 24 Apr. 2026, Dubai14 – 18 Sep. 2026, Abu Dhabi

COURSE OVERVIEW:

This course provides participants with practical, applied knowledge of process engineering within the context of oil, gas and petrochemical industries. It introduces the fundamental concepts, methods and tools used by process engineers, including process flow diagrams, mass and energy balances, fluid flow, heat transfer and separation principles. Emphasis is placed on how process engineering decisions influence plant safety, operability, efficiency and reliability. Through examples and case-based discussions, participants will learn how to interpret process data, understand key equipment and contribute more effectively to day-to-day operations and process improvement initiatives.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the fundamental concepts and terminology of applied process engineering and how they are used in operating facilities.
  2. Interpret and use basic process engineering documents such as process flow diagrams and piping and instrumentation diagrams to support operations.
  3. Describe the main process routes and unit operations used in oil, gas and petrochemical industries and their key design and operating variables.
  4. Recognize how process engineering decisions impact process safety, risk, operability and environmental performance.
  5. Apply basic principles of mass and energy balances, fluid flow, heat transfer and separation to simple process problems.
  6. Identify opportunities for improving process design and control to enhance efficiency, reliability and product quality.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

-Operations engineers and supervisors working in process plants

-Process engineers and junior process design engineers

-Panel and field operators seeking a stronger process engineering foundation

-Production, planning, and technical support staff involved in process operations

-Maintenance and reliability personnel who interact closely with process engineers

-HSE and risk engineers who need to understand process engineering fundamentals

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures and discussion sessions, as well as case studies, will be managed to maximize the amount and quality of information, knowledge, and experience transfer. The course will be intensive but practical and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance learning. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and after the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
