Effluent Treatment System (Sour and Sewage)

13 – 17 Apr. 2026, Abu Dhabi07 – 11 Sep. 2026, Abu Dhabi

COURSE OVERVIEW:

The course will provide the participants with an understanding of the basic principles of effluent treatment systems for sour and sewage streams in oil, gas, and industrial facilities. It will cover the fundamentals of how sour water, produced water, and sanitary sewage are collected, treated, monitored, and controlled before discharge or reuse. Participants will be introduced to physical and chemical monitoring of liquid effluents, effluent analysis and interpretation of results, control measures to ensure compliance with environmental standards, and key aspects of marine environment protection related to effluent disposal. Emphasis is placed on the role of operations and process personnel in daily monitoring, safe operation, and maintaining regulatory compliance.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the role and purpose of sour and sewage effluent treatment systems in industrial and oil and gas facilities.
  2. Explain the basic principles of effluent treatment operations, including separation, neutralization, biological treatment, and polishing steps.
  3. Identify the key parameters used for physical and chemical monitoring of liquid effluents and understand why they are important.
  4. Carry out or support waste effluent sampling and understand the basics of laboratory analysis techniques.
  5. Interpret effluent analysis results and relate them to equipment performance, process conditions, and compliance limits.
  6. Describe methods and operational practices for controlling waste liquid effluents before disposal to the environment.
  7. Recognize the main environmental risks associated with sour and sewage effluents and their impact on marine and surrounding environments.
  8. Understand the importance of adhering to site environmental standards, permits, and regulatory requirements during effluent treatment operations.
  9. Participate effectively in troubleshooting and basic problem-solving for effluent treatment systems by using monitoring data and analysis results.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

-Operations professionals

-Process operators and field operators

-Panel and control room operators involved with utilities and effluent systems

-Junior process and production engineers supporting effluent treatment facilities

-Utility and offsite operators responsible for sour water and sewage systems

-Any technical staff who need a basic understanding of effluent treatment and environmental control

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures and discussion sessions, as well as case studies, will be managed to maximize the amount and quality of information, knowledge, and experience transfer. The course will be intensive but practical and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance learning. Course material through PowerPoint equipped with necessary animation, learning videos, and general discussions will be provided.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:
