Desalination and Mixed Bed Demineralisation Systems
| 02 – 06 Feb. 2026, Abu Dhabi | 03 – 07 Aug. 2026, Cairo |
COURSE OVERVIEW:
This course will provide participants with a practical overview of water desalination and mixed bed demineralization as used in power plants, industrial facilities, and utilities. It explains the principles of ion exchange, the configuration and operation of two bed demineralizers, condensate polishing units, and mixed bed systems, as well as associated pretreatment steps for corrosion and oxygen control. Participants will learn how these systems fit into the overall water and steam cycle, how to monitor water quality, and how to carry out basic troubleshooting and resin condition checks to maintain safe, reliable, and efficient plant operation.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Describe the role of desalination and demineralization in industrial water and steam systems.
- Explain the basic principles of ion exchange and how two bed and mixed bed systems remove dissolved ions.
- Identify the main components and flow paths of two bed demineralizers, condensate polishing units, and mixed bed systems.
- Describe the purpose and operation of pretreatment steps for corrosion control, including filtration, chemical dosing, and pH control.
- Explain the importance of oxygen control and deaeration for corrosion prevention in boiler and condensate systems.
- Recognize common operational problems in demineralizers and mixed beds and describe basic troubleshooting steps.
- Understand the purpose of resin testing and how resin condition affects system performance.
- Interpret key water quality parameters and relate them to system operation and protection of downstream equipment.
- Apply safe working practices when operating, monitoring, and regenerating desalination and mixed bed units.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
-Operations professionals involved in water and steam systems
-Plant and field operators in power, oil, gas, and industrial facilities
-Utility and offsite operators
-Water treatment plant operators and technicians
-Junior operations and process engineers supporting water treatment systems
-Maintenance technicians working around demineralizers and mixed bed systems
TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:
A highly interactive combination of lectures and discussion sessions, as well as case studies, will be managed to maximize the amount and quality of information, knowledge, and experience transfer. The course will be intensive but practical and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance learning. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.
The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and after the course.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
