Advanced Acid Stimulation in Carbonate

12 – 16 Jan. 2026, Abu Dhabi13 – 17 July 2026, Dubai

COURSE OVERVIEW:

The course will provide the participants with an in-depth overview of acid stimulation in carbonate reservoirs. It will cover both matrix acidising and acid fracturing design, appropriate selection and formulation of fluid systems, modelling approaches for matrix acidising, and specific considerations for tight and heterogeneous carbonate formations. Emphasis will be placed on how to plan, design, execute, and evaluate acid treatments in order to improve well productivity while managing risk, formation damage, and operational constraints.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

-Explain the fundamental mechanisms of acid–rock interaction in carbonate reservoirs and how these affect stimulation outcomes.

-Differentiate between matrix acidising and acid fracturing and select the appropriate technique for different reservoir conditions.

-Design matrix acid treatments include objectives, volumes, injection rates, stages, and diversion strategies.

-Describe the principles of acid fracturing design in carbonates, including fracture geometry, fluid selection, and proppant considerations where applicable.

-Select and evaluate fluid systems for carbonate acid stimulation, including hydrochloric acid systems, organic acids, emulsified acids, gelled acids, and diverting agents.

-Apply matrix acidising modelling tools and workflows to predict wormhole development, productivity improvement, and treatment effectiveness.

-Address specific challenges associated with acid stimulation in tight and heterogeneous carbonates, including limited permeability, natural fractures, and layered systems.

-Plan and interpret pre-job diagnostics and post-job evaluation using production data, pressure responses, logs, and other surveillance tools.

-Identify key operational risks, HSE considerations, and best practices during the design and execution of acid stimulation treatments.

-Participate effectively in multidisciplinary teams to design, review, and optimise acid stimulation campaigns in carbonate fields.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

-Reservoir Engineers

-Production Engineers involved in well performance improvement

-Stimulation and Well Intervention Engineers

-Petroleum Engineers working on carbonate assets

-Completion and Well Services Engineers

-Field Development and Asset Engineers supporting productivity enhancement programs

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures and discussion sessions, as well as case studies, will be managed to maximize the amount and quality of information, knowledge, and experience transfer. The course will be intensive but practical and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance learning. Course material through PowerPoint equipped with necessary animation, learning videos, and general discussions will be provided.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and after the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants who complete at least 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
