Advanced Process Control Systems
| 06 – 10 Apr. 2026, Abu Dhabi | 03 – 07 Aug. 2026, Dubai |
COURSE OVERVIEW:
This course will provide participants with a solid introduction to automatic process control in industrial plants. It will explain the main process variables and their measurement, the structure and function of control loops, the role and operation of control valves as final control elements, and how basic process control loops are designed, operated, and maintained to keep processes safe, stable, and efficient. Practical examples and simple case studies will be used to link theory to actual plant operation.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
1. Identify the main process variables (flow, level, pressure, temperature, and composition) and explain how they are measured in process plants.
2. Describe the basic elements of an automatic control loop and explain how they work together.
3. Recognize different types of basic control strategies (on–off, feedback, feedforward, cascade, ratio) used in the process industry.
4. Explain the function, types, and operating principles of control valves and other final control elements.
5. Interpret simple process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) related to control loops.
6. Relate process dynamics to control performance and recognize common causes of poor control.
7. Communicate more effectively with control room operators, instrumentation staff, and maintenance personnel about process control issues.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
-Operation engineers and operations staff
-Control room operators and panel operators
-Junior process engineers involved in plant operation and optimization
-Maintenance technicians who support instrumentation and control equipment
-Supervisors and team leaders who need a basic understanding of process control
-Any technical personnel who interact with process control systems in industrial plants
TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:
A highly interactive combination of lectures and discussion sessions, as well as case studies, will be managed to maximize the amount and quality of information, knowledge, and experience transfer. The course will be intensive but practical and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance learning. Course material through PowerPoint equipped with necessary animation, learning videos, and general discussions will be provided.
The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
