Understanding LNG Terminal Management and Operations Concepts

15 – 19 June 2026, Abu Dhabi07 – 11 Sep. 2026, Abu Dhabi

COURSE OVERVIEW:

Understanding LNG Terminal Management and Operations Concepts is a strategic program focused on the specialized requirements of handling Liquefied Natural Gas. This course examines the entire LNG value chain, from liquefaction and transport to regasification and distribution. It provides a technical framework for understanding the cryogenic properties of methane ($-162^{\circ} \text{C}$) and the sophisticated engineering required to maintain tank integrity and operational safety at shore-based facilities.

The scope of this training involves the mastery of terminal "Send-out" operations, focusing on the interface between the LNG carrier and the storage tanks. Participants will explore the mechanics of "Boil-Off Gas" (BOG) management, the utilization of "Regasification" heat exchangers, and the technicalities of "Submerged Combustion Vaporizers" (SCV). The program emphasizes the role of the Terminal Manager in balancing commercial throughput with the rigorous safety standards mandated by international codes such as the SIGTTO guidelines and the NFPA 59A.

Coverage includes the legal mandates of "Environmental Impact Assessments," the management of "Small-Scale LNG" (SSLNG) bunkering, and the technical requirements for "Emergency Shutdown" (ESD) logic. The course addresses the nuances of "Rollover" prevention in storage tanks, the management of "Cool-down" procedures, and the protection of terminal infrastructure from cryogenic spills. By focusing on both operational efficiency and risk mitigation, this course equips professionals with the expertise needed to lead modern LNG terminal facilities.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the thermodynamic properties of LNG and its behavior.
  2. Identify the core components of an LNG Export and Import terminal.
  3. Manage "Cryogenic" safety and the prevention of brittle fracture.
  4. Execute safe "Cool-down" and "Warm-up" of terminal piping.
  5. Monitor "Boil-Off Gas" (BOG) and manage the reliquefaction cycle.
  6. Implement "Rollover" prevention strategies in LNG storage tanks.
  7. Oversee "Regasification" processes using ORV and SCV technologies.
  8. Manage the "Ship-Shore Interface" as per SIGTTO best practices.
  9. Audit "Emergency Shutdown" (ESD) and "High-Level" alarm systems.
  10. Execute "LNG Bunkering" and small-scale distribution operations.
  11. Manage "Fire Protection" systems specifically for cryogenic hazards.
  12. Navigate the regulatory framework of NFPA 59A and EN 1473.
  13. Lead the "Terminal Operations" team in achieving net-zero goals.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

Terminal Managers, Operations Supervisors, LNG Engineers, HSEQ Professionals, and Maritime Superintendents.

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximise the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
