COURSE OVERVIEW:

Training on the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code is a technical program designed to ensure the safe transport of packaged dangerous goods by sea. This course examines the mandatory requirements of SOLAS and MARPOL regarding the classification, packaging, labeling, and stowage of hazardous materials. It provides a technical framework for shore-based personnel and shipboard officers to comply with the 2-year update cycle of the IMDG Code, ensuring that dangerous goods are handled in a manner that prevents injury to persons and damage to the marine environment.

The scope of this training involves the mastery of the 9 classes of dangerous goods and the specific requirements for their segregation and stowage. Participants will explore the mechanics of using the Dangerous Goods List, identifying proper shipping names, and understanding the significance of UN numbers. The program emphasizes the role of the Dangerous Goods Declaration and the importance of correct marking and placarding of containers and portable tanks to ensure visibility and safety for all parties in the supply chain.

Coverage includes the legal mandates for training, the requirements for limited and excepted quantities, and the technicalities of Marine Pollutants.
