SOLAS Requirements Related to Tankers and Offshore Units Operations
| 12 – 16 Jan. 2026, Abu Dhabi | 02 – 06 Nov. 2026, Abu Dhabi |
COURSE OVERVIEW:
SOLAS Requirements Related to Tankers and Offshore Units Operations is a high-level regulatory course focused on the "International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea." This course examines the specific technical standards mandated for high-risk maritime assets, including oil, chemical, and gas tankers, as well as Mobile Offshore Drilling Units (MODUs). It provides a structured framework for understanding how SOLAS construction, equipment, and operational rules apply to the unique hazards of the energy sector.
The scope of this training involves a detailed analysis of Chapter II-2 regarding fire protection and Chapter III regarding life-saving appliances (LSA) tailored for tankers. Participants will explore the mechanics of "Inert Gas" requirements, the structural fire integrity of "Pump Rooms," and the specialized evacuation requirements for offshore units. The program emphasizes the role of the "International Life-Saving Appliance" (LSA) Code and the "Fire Safety Systems" (FSS) Code in achieving compliance for offshore installations.
Coverage includes the recent amendments to SOLAS Chapter XI-1 and XI-2 regarding enhanced surveys and security, as well as the interface with the "MODU Code" for offshore units. The course addresses the nuances of "Damage Stability" requirements, the maintenance of "Fire-Fighting" equipment, and the legal implications of non-compliance during Port State Control inspections. By focusing on the practical application of these international standards, this course equips maritime and offshore leaders with the expertise needed to manage safe and compliant operations.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Explain the structure and application of the SOLAS Convention to tankers.
- Identify the specific "Construction and Stability" requirements for offshore units.
- Manage "Fire Protection" systems in accordance with SOLAS Chapter II-2.
- Execute "Inert Gas" (IG) operations as mandated for tankers over 8,000 DWT.
- Audit "Life-Saving Appliances" (LSA) for compliance with the LSA Code.
- Implement "Structural Fire Integrity" measures in tanker pump rooms.
- Manage "Emergency Power" and "Steering Gear" redundancy requirements.
- Execute "Radio Communication" protocols as per GMDSS requirements.
- Conduct "Enhanced Survey Programmes" (ESP) for tankers and bulk carriers.
- Utilize "Global Integrated Shipping Information System" (GISIS) for compliance.
