Security Awareness for Seafarers with Designated Security Duties

01 – 05 June 2026, Abu Dhabi21 – 25 Sep. 2026, Abu Dhabi

COURSE OVERVIEW:

Security Awareness for Seafarers with Designated Security Duties is a mandatory training program compliant with STCW Table A-VI/6-2. This course examines the security responsibilities of crew members who are specifically assigned to protect the vessel, its cargo, and its personnel. It provides a technical framework for understanding the "Ship Security Plan" (SSP) and the practical implementation of security measures at different threat levels.

The scope of this training involves the mastery of "Access Control," "Search Techniques," and the identification of "Prohibited Items" such as weapons and explosives. Participants will explore the mechanics of "Security Levels" 1, 2, and 3, focusing on the enhanced duties required as the threat environment changes. The program emphasizes the role of the seafarer in "Surveillance" and "Recognition," ensuring that potential security breaches are detected and reported before they escalate.

Coverage includes the legal mandates of the "ISPS Code," the management of "Cybersecurity" risks, and the techniques for "Stowaway" and "Smuggling" prevention. The course addresses the nuances of "Crowd Management" during security incidents and the coordination with the "Ship Security Officer" (SSO). By focusing on both situational awareness and tactical response, this course equips designated seafarers with the expertise needed to act as an effective first line of defense in the maritime security chain.
