Personal Survival Techniques

22 – 26 June 2026, Abu Dhabi09 – 13 Nov. 2026, Abu Dhabi

COURSE OVERVIEW:

Personal Survival Techniques is a critical safety course designed to provide maritime and offshore personnel with the essential skills required to survive an emergency at sea. This course examines the most common causes of maritime abandonment and the physiological impacts of immersion in cold water. It provides a technical framework for understanding the priority of survival, focusing on the effective use of life-saving appliances and the "Will to Live" during prolonged exposure.

The scope of this training involves the practical mastery of individual and group survival methods. Participants will explore the mechanics of "Lifejacket" and "Immersion Suit" deployment, the technical operation of inflatable liferafts, and the use of pyrotechnic signals and GMDSS equipment. The program emphasizes the importance of "Emergency Drills" and the development of "Muscle Memory" to ensure a calm and controlled evacuation under high-stress conditions.

Coverage includes the principles of "Hypothermia" management, the "Cold Shock" response, and the techniques for water entry and survival swimming. The course addresses the logistical requirements for maintaining survival craft and the procedural steps for attracting rescue assets. By focusing on both physical readiness and mental resilience, this course equips participants with the expertise needed to safeguard their lives and the lives of others in the event of a catastrophic vessel failure.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  1. Identify the primary types of life-saving appliances on ships and rigs.
  2. Execute the correct procedure for donning lifejackets and immersion suits.
  3. Demonstrate safe "Water Entry" techniques from a height.
  4. Manage the "Cold Shock" response during initial immersion.
  5. Inflate and board a liferaft from the water and from a vessel.
