Maritime Logistics: Cargo Planning and Documentation
| 08 – 12 June 2026, Dubai | 28 Sep. – 02 Oct. 2026, Abu Dhabi |
COURSE OVERVIEW:
Maritime Logistics: Cargo Planning and Documentation is a specialized program designed to optimize the movement of goods through the global shipping network. This course examines the strategic integration of vessel capacity, port infrastructure, and administrative requirements to ensure the seamless flow of international trade. It provides a technical framework for understanding how logistical efficiency is achieved through precise space allocation, load sequencing, and the management of multi-modal interfaces.
The scope of this training involves a detailed analysis of the documentation chain required for different types of cargo, including containers, dry bulk, and liquid commodities. Participants will explore the mechanics of stowage planning, focusing on the stability of the vessel and the prevention of cargo shifting or contamination. The program emphasizes the role of digitalization in logistics, highlighting the transition from paper-based systems to Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and blockchain-based Bills of Lading.
Coverage includes the commercial aspects of logistics, such as Incoterms 2020, customs clearance procedures, and the role of freight forwarders and port agents. The course addresses the complexities of "Just-in-Time" delivery, the management of "Transshipment" hubs, and the regulatory requirements for the transport of dangerous goods. By focusing on both the physical and administrative aspects of the supply chain, this course equips professionals with the expertise needed to minimize transit times and reduce logistical costs.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Explain the fundamental principles of the maritime logistics and supply chain.
- Develop efficient stowage plans for various vessel types and cargo configurations.
- Manage the documentation flow from the Booking Note to the Bill of Lading.
- Apply Incoterms 2020 correctly in international shipping contracts.
- Utilize digital tools and EDI for real-time cargo tracking and reporting.
- Oversee the documentation required for the transport of dangerous goods (IMDG).
- Coordinate with port authorities and customs for efficient cargo clearance.
- Analyze vessel stability and stress factors during the cargo planning phase.
- Implement "Best Practices" for the planning of containerized and project cargo.
- Evaluate the role of "Intermodalism" in reducing port-to-door transit times.
- Manage the risks associated with cargo shortage and documentation errors.
- Conduct logistical audits to identify bottlenecks in the transportation chain.
- Lead the coordination between shipowners, shippers, and receivers.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
Logistics Managers, Port Agents, Cargo Superintendents, Freight Forwarders, and Supply Chain Coordinators.
TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:
A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximise the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.
The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
