Marine Safety Systems and Equipment Maintenance For Port Safety Officers
| 30 Mar. – 03 Apr. 2026, Abu Dhabi | 27 – 31 July 2026, Abu Dhabi |
COURSE OVERVIEW:
Marine Safety Systems and Equipment Maintenance for Port Safety Officers is a technical program designed to ensure the operational readiness of all safety infrastructure within a port or terminal environment. This course examines the critical equipment used for firefighting, oil spill response, and personnel safety in a coastal setting. It provides a technical framework for the inspection, testing, and maintenance of both fixed and portable safety systems, ensuring that port authorities remain compliant with international and local safety regulations.
The scope of this training involves a detailed analysis of port-wide fire mains, hydrants, and specialized foam systems used for oil and gas berths. Participants will explore the maintenance of life-saving appliances (LSAs) such as lifebuoys, rescue boats, and shore-based safety ladders. The program emphasizes the importance of standardized maintenance schedules and the use of digital logs to track the health of safety assets across a large port facility.
Coverage includes the regulatory requirements for port safety, the management of emergency communication systems, and the inspection of hazardous area equipment. The course addresses the specific challenges of maintaining equipment in a harsh marine environment, focusing on corrosion prevention and structural integrity. By focusing on technical readiness, this course equips Port Safety Officers with the expertise needed to ensure that all safety systems function perfectly when an emergency occurs.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Identify the essential safety systems and equipment required for modern ports.
- Develop a comprehensive maintenance schedule for port firefighting systems.
- Oversee the testing and inspection of fire hydrants and monitors.
- Manage the inventory and readiness of oil spill response equipment.
- Inspect and maintain life-saving appliances (LSAs) in the port area.
- Conduct functional tests on emergency communication and alarm systems.
- Identify and manage corrosion in safety infrastructure and hardware.
- Verify the compliance of portable fire extinguishers and breathing apparatus.
- Manage the maintenance of port rescue boats and emergency vehicles.
- Implement "Permit to Work" systems for safety equipment maintenance.
- Audit safety equipment records for regulatory and insurance compliance.
- Oversee the inspection of hazardous area lighting and grounding.
- Lead a team of safety technicians in daily inspection and repair tasks.
TARGET AUDIENCE:

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:
A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximise the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.
The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
