Introduction to T-BOSIET Tropical Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (Based on OPITO Requirements)

05 – 09 Jan. 2026, Abu Dhabi06 – 10 July 2026, Abu Dhabi

COURSE OVERVIEW:

The Introduction to T-BOSIET Tropical Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training course is a fundamental safety program designed for personnel seeking employment in the offshore oil and gas industry in tropical regions. This course examines the specific safety procedures and emergency response techniques required for working on offshore platforms and rigs. It provides a technical and practical foundation in offshore survival, reflecting the standards set by the Offshore Petroleum Industry Training Organization (OPITO).

The scope of this training involves the detailed study of offshore safety inductions, focusing on the identification of hazards and the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) specific to tropical climates. Participants will explore the principles of helicopter safety, including escape procedures (HUET) tailored for warm-water environments. The program emphasizes the practical skills of sea survival, firefighting, and basic first aid, ensuring that all offshore workers can respond effectively to life-threatening situations.

Coverage includes the mechanics of offshore evacuation, the use of Totally Enclosed Motor Propelled Survival Crafts (TEMPSC), and survival at sea while awaiting rescue. The course addresses the health and safety regulations governing offshore work and the importance of behavioral safety. By providing a comprehensive introduction to these life-saving protocols, this course equips participants with the essential competence to operate safely in the high-risk offshore petroleum sector.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the OPITO standards and the purpose of the T-BOSIET.
  2. Identify typical offshore hazards and their associated risks.
  3. Understand the safety induction process for offshore installations.
  4. Demonstrate correct use of offshore Personal Protective Equipment.
  5. Explain helicopter travel safety and pre-flight requirements.
  6. Perform helicopter escape techniques (HUET) in tropical conditions.
  7. Execute sea survival skills, including lifejacket and liferaft use.
  8. Identify the components and operation of a TEMPSC.
  9. Perform basic first aid techniques, including CPR and airway management.
  10. Utilize portable fire extinguishers for small-scale offshore fires.
  11. Execute self-rescue techniques during smoke-filled evacuations.
  12. Identify the importance of Permit to Work and Lock-out Tag-out.
  13. Coordinate with emergency response teams during installation drills.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

Prospective Offshore Workers, Engineers, Technicians, Catering Staff, and Visitors to offshore platforms in tropical regions.

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximise the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.
