| 12 – 16 Jan. 2026, Abu Dhabi | 13 – 17 July 2026, Dubai |
COURSE OVERVIEW:
The Introduction to SOLAS and MARPOL Conventions and Latest Updates course is a fundamental regulatory program designed to cover the most critical international laws protecting human life and the environment at sea. This course examines the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) and the Marine Pollution (MARPOL) conventions, which form the bedrock of maritime safety and environmental stewardship. It provides a comprehensive analysis of the technical regulations that govern ship design, equipment, and operations to prevent accidents and mitigate pollution.
The scope of this training involves a detailed breakdown of the various chapters of SOLAS, including fire protection, life-saving appliances, and radio communications. Participants will explore the six annexes of MARPOL, focusing on the prevention of pollution by oil, sewage, garbage, and air emissions. The program emphasizes the "latest updates" and amendments, such as the IMO 2020 sulfur cap, the implementation of EEXI and CII for decarbonization, and the new requirements for cyber security and polar operations.
Coverage includes the legal framework of the IMO, the role of flag state and port state control, and the documentation required for statutory compliance. The course addresses the practical implementation of these regulations in daily shipboard life, ensuring that seafarers and shore staff are aware of their legal responsibilities. By providing a clear and up-to-date overview of these massive treaties, this course equips participants with the essential knowledge to ensure that vessels operate safely and sustainably in global waters.
