Introduction to Offshore Marine Terminal Operations (FPSO & FSRU)
| 26 – 30 Jan. 2026, Abu Dhabi | 19 – 23 Oct. 2026, Abu Dhabi |
COURSE OVERVIEW:
The Introduction to Offshore Marine Terminal Operations (FPSO and FSRU) course is a foundational program designed for professionals entering the specialized sector of offshore hydrocarbon processing and storage. This course examines the operational dynamics of Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) units and Floating Storage Regasification Units (FSRU). It provides a technical overview of how these massive floating assets function as the primary interface between subsea wells or LNG carriers and the global energy market.
The scope of this training involves the analysis of station-keeping systems, including turret moors and spread moors, and the critical processes of tandem and side-by-side offloading. Participants will explore the fundamental differences between oil processing on an FPSO and the regasification of LNG on an FSRU. The program emphasizes the safety protocols required for hazardous zone management, emergency shutdown (ESD) logic, and the coordination of support vessels like tugs and helicopters.
Coverage includes the maintenance of subsea risers, the operation of loading arms or flexible hoses, and the environmental management of produced water and emissions. The course addresses the unique challenges of operating in harsh offshore environments, focusing on stability, weather-vaning, and structural integrity. By providing a comprehensive introduction to these complex floating terminals, this course equips participants with the essential knowledge to support safe and efficient offshore energy operations.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Identify the core functions and components of FPSO and FSRU units.
- Explain the station-keeping principles of Turret and Spread Mooring.
- Distinguish between Tandem and Side-by-Side offloading configurations.
- Understand the basics of oil-water separation and gas processing on FPSOs.
- Identify the regasification process and heat exchange systems on FSRUs.
- Manage the risks associated with cryogenic LNG and volatile crude oil.
- Oversee the connection and disconnection of offloading hoses and risers.
- Explain the logic and importance of Emergency Shutdown (ESD) systems.
- Coordinate the roles of support vessels during offloading operations.
- Identify hazardous area classifications (Zones 0, 1, and 2) on floating units.
- Implement environmental protection measures for offshore discharge.
- Navigate the safety protocols for helicopter operations and personnel transfer.
- Execute initial response procedures for offshore fires and spills.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
Junior Marine Officers, Terminal Technicians, Offshore Support Personnel, Logistics Coordinators, and HSE Officers.
TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:
A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximise the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.
The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
