Comprehensive Dry-Docking Management: Surveys, Planning, And Execution

09 – 13 Feb. 2026, Dubai13 – 17 July 2026, Abu Dhabi

COURSE OVERVIEW:

Comprehensive Dry-Docking Management: Surveys, Planning, and Execution is a critical technical program for maritime professionals responsible for vessel maintenance and regulatory compliance. This course provides an exhaustive analysis of the dry-docking lifecycle, which represents the most significant operational expense and technical challenge in ship management. Participants will explore the transition from routine operations to the intensive "Out-of-Service" period required for hull inspections, machinery overhauls, and statutory surveys.

The scope of this training involves the detailed preparation of the "Dry-Dock Specification" document. Attendees will learn to conduct thorough pre-docking surveys to identify repair needs, calculate material requirements, and solicit competitive bids from international shipyards. The course details the project management techniques required to oversee hundreds of simultaneous tasks, focusing on the critical path to ensure the vessel is returned to service on schedule and within budget while meeting stringent Classification Society standards.

Coverage also includes the technical aspects of hull cleaning, coating application, and underwater gear maintenance. Participants will examine the mechanics of the docking process itself, from the preparation of "Docking Blocks" to the final undocking and sea trials. By integrating technical engineering with financial control and safety management, this course equips technical superintendents, chief engineers, and fleet managers with the expertise to lead successful and cost-effective dry-docking projects.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

1.  Formulate a comprehensive Dry-Docking Specification and work scope.

2.  Manage the selection process for shipyards based on technical and financial criteria.

3.  Coordinate with Classification Societies for Special and Intermediate Surveys.

4.  Oversee the preparation of "Docking Plans" and block arrangements.

5.  Manage the critical path and project timeline to prevent delays.

6.  Supervise hull blasting and the application of sophisticated coating systems.

7.  Execute maintenance and overhauls on rudders, propellers, and tailshafts.

8.  Inspect and repair sea valves, chest strainers, and cathodic protection.

9.  Lead the safety management program for shipyard "Hot Work" and confined spaces.

10.  Implement rigorous cost-control and variation-tracking procedures.

11.  Conduct final inspections and manage the "Punch List" for close-out.

12.  Prepare a detailed post-docking report and financial reconciliation.

13.  Utilize digital project management tools for dry-docking efficiency.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

Technical Superintendents, Fleet Managers, Chief Engineers, Shipyard Project Managers, and Marine Surveyors.

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximise the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
