06 – 10 Apr. 2026, Cairo31 Aug. – 04 Sep. 2026, Abu Dhabi

COURSE OVERVIEW:

Anatomy of Shipping is a foundational program designed to provide a clear and comprehensive understanding of the global maritime industry. This course breaks down the complex components of the shipping world, explaining how ships, ports, and international regulations work together to facilitate 90 percent of global trade. Participants will examine the different types of vessels, from massive container ships to specialized tankers, and the specific roles they play in the global economy.

The scope of this training involves an exploration of the various stakeholders in the maritime sector, including shipowners, charterers, brokers, and port authorities. Attendees will learn about the lifecycle of a ship, from the initial design and shipbuilding phase to operations, maintenance, and eventually demolition. The course details the commercial aspects of shipping, introducing participants to freight markets, charter parties, and the fundamental economics that drive vessel deployment and route selection.

Coverage also includes an introduction to the essential regulatory frameworks, such as SOLAS, MARPOL, and the role of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Participants will examine the geographic "choke points" of global shipping, such as the Suez and Panama Canals, and the importance of maritime safety and security. By providing a holistic view of the industry, this course equips newcomers and professionals from related fields with the essential knowledge to navigate the maritime landscape with confidence.
