Advanced Operation and Safety Practices in Terminals Handling Ships Carrying Liquefied Gases in Bulk

23 – 27 Mar. 2026, Abu Dhabi17 – 21 Aug. 2026, Abu Dhabi

COURSE OVERVIEW:

Advanced Operation and Safety Practices in Terminals Handling Ships Carrying Liquefied Gases in Bulk is a specialized technical program designed for personnel managing LNG, LPG, and chemical gas facilities. This course provides a high-level examination of the thermodynamic and chemical properties of liquefied gases and the sophisticated infrastructure required for their safe handling. Participants will explore the design and operation of cryogenic and pressurized systems, focusing on the critical interface between the ship and the shore terminal.

The scope of this training involves the detailed analysis of cargo transfer operations, including cooling down, loading/unloading, and vapor management. Attendees will learn to navigate the rigorous standards set by SIGTTO and OCIMF, focusing on the prevention of "rollover" in storage tanks, the management of boil-off gas (BOG), and the maintenance of high-integrity hardware such as marine loading arms and emergency shutdown (ESD) systems. The course emphasizes the prevention of atmospheric releases and the mitigation of cryogenic hazards.

Coverage includes advanced safety protocols for jetty operations, fire protection in gas terminals, and emergency response for liquefied gas leaks and fires. Participants will examine the use of Ship-Shore Safety Checklists and the coordination of communications during complex transfer cycles. By integrating technical engineering principles with strict operational discipline, this course equips terminal managers and operators with the expertise to ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant handling of liquefied gas cargoes.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the thermodynamic behavior of LNG, LPG, and chemical gases.
  2. Oversee complex ship-shore cargo transfer operations for liquefied gases.
  3. Manage cryogenic systems and mitigate the risks of cold-stress failure.
  4. Implement SIGTTO and OCIMF guidelines for terminal operations.
  5. Manage Boil-Off Gas (BOG) and reliquefaction systems effectively.
  6. Identify and prevent "Rollover" incidents in liquefied gas storage tanks.
  7. Maintain and test Emergency Shutdown (ESD) and Ship-Shore Links (SSL).
  8. Supervise the cooling-down and warming-up procedures for jetty lines.
  9. Conduct risk assessments for liquefied gas terminal activities.
  10. Manage vapor return and balancing during loading and unloading.
  11. Execute emergency response for cryogenic spills and gas cloud dispersion.
  12. Oversee the maintenance of Marine Loading Arms and Quick Connects.
  13. Lead the Ship-Shore Safety Meeting and ensure checklist compliance.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

Terminal Managers, Jetty Supervisors, Gas Engineers, Cargo Superintendents, and HSE Personnel at liquefied gas facilities.

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximise the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
