Wireline Operations, Fishing, and Completion Services

04 – 08 May 2026, Dubai31 Aug. – 04 Sep. 2026, Abu Dhabi

COURSE OVERVIEW:

Wireline Operations, Fishing, and Completion Services is a technical program designed to master the art of conveying tools and retrieving obstructions within a live wellbore. Wireline remains the most common method for diagnostic logging, setting plugs, and performing mechanical repairs. This course provides a deep dive into the two primary branches: Slickline (mechanical) and Electric-line (data-driven), along with the high-stakes world of "fishing"—the recovery of lost or stuck equipment.

The scope of this training includes the mechanical limits of wireline strings, the physics of tool strings in deviated wells, and the operation of surface pressure control equipment. Participants will learn how to select the right fishing tools, such as overshots and spears, and how to develop a "fishing logic" that maximizes the chances of recovery while minimizing the risk of worsening the situation. The curriculum also covers completion services, including the setting of packers and the execution of perforating runs.

Coverage emphasizes the critical importance of depth control and tension management. Attendees will explore the causes of wireline breakage, the mechanics of "jarring," and the use of specialized software for modeling line tension. By focusing on both routine maintenance and emergency recovery, this course ensures that participants can execute intervention programs with high reliability and safeguard the mechanical integrity of the well.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  • Distinguish between Slickline, Braided Line, and Electric-line (E-line) applications.
  • Identify and operate wireline surface equipment (Winches, Mast, and Units).
  • Assemble and calculate the weight of specialized Bottom Hole Assemblies (BHA).
  • Operate Wireline Pressure Control Equipment (PCE) including stuffing boxes and grease heads.
  • Select appropriate fishing tools based on the "fish" geometry and well conditions.
  • Execute jarring operations to release stuck tools or activate downhole devices.
  • Perform precision depth correlation and tension limit calculations.
  • Manage perforating operations safely using E-line conveyance.
  • Set and retrieve bridge plugs, packers, and gas lift valves.
  • Diagnose wireline "birds-nesting" and line breakage causes.
  • Evaluate the risks of wireline operations in high-angle and horizontal wells.
  • Implement "best practices" for wireline fishing to avoid losing the wellbore.
  • Document and report intervention results for asset integrity tracking.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

Well Intervention Engineers, Slickline/Wireline Supervisors, Production Engineers, and Completion Specialists.

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximise the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
