Wellhead and X-Mass Tree Systems: Operation and Maintenance
| 06 – 10 Apr. 2026, Abu Dhabi | 03 – 07 Aug. 2026, Dubai |
COURSE OVERVIEW:
Wellhead and X-Mas Tree Systems: Operation and Maintenance is a specialized program dedicated to the surface equipment that serves as the primary gateway to the reservoir. The wellhead assembly must maintain pressure integrity and provide flow control for decades under harsh environmental conditions. This course provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of the mechanical components, sealing technologies, and maintenance procedures required to ensure the safety and longevity of these critical assets.
The scope of this training includes the detailed anatomy of casing heads, tubing heads, and the various valves that comprise the Christmas Tree. Participants will explore the engineering of metal-to-metal seals, the function of the tubing hanger, and the operation of the Surface Controlled Subsurface Safety Valve (SCSSSV) control panel. The curriculum emphasizes the "Operational Safety" of wellheads, including pressure testing protocols and the management of valve "kill" and "wing" functions.
Coverage also focuses on the proactive maintenance and troubleshooting of wellhead systems. Attendees will learn how to perform professional valve lubrication (greasing), manage stem packing leaks, and verify the integrity of annulus seals. By mastering these maintenance practices, participants will be able to prevent costly leaks, ensure the functionality of emergency shutdown (ESD) systems, and maintain compliance with industry standards like API 6A.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Identify and describe the function of all wellhead and Christmas tree components.
- Distinguish between different API 6A pressure ratings and material classes.
- Explain the operation of Master, Wing, Swab, and Choke valves.
- Perform routine wellhead maintenance including greasing and seal injection.
- Troubleshoot wellhead leaks and stem packing failures.
- Manage annulus pressure monitoring and bleed-down operations.
- Execute pressure tests on wellhead components and casing seals.
- Operate the hydraulic control panel for the Subsurface Safety Valve (SSSV).
- Select appropriate lubricants and sealants for different service conditions.
- Identify early signs of corrosion and erosion in wellhead internal components.
- Manage wellhead integrity during well intervention and workovers.
- Document maintenance activities and barrier verification for audit compliance.
- Discuss the safety protocols for working on high-pressure wellhead systems.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
Production Operators, Field Technicians, Well Integrity Engineers, and Maintenance Supervisors.
TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:
A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximise the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.
The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
