Turnaround Planning for Production Facilities and Wells

04 – 08 May 2026, Abu Dhabi28 Sep. – 02 Oct. 2026, Sharm El Shaikh

COURSE OVERVIEW:

A Turnaround (TAR) is the most complex, expensive, and risk-heavy event in the lifecycle of a production asset. This course provides a technical and strategic framework for the planning, execution, and close-out of major shutdowns. Participants will explore the "Turnaround Lifecycle," from the initial scoping and long-lead item procurement to the high-pressure execution phase.

The curriculum focuses on "Work Scope Optimization"—ensuring that only necessary tasks are included to minimize downtime without compromising integrity. Attendees will learn about schedule management, resource leveling, and the critical path method (CPM). The course also addresses the integration of well interventions (Workovers) with facility turnarounds to maximize synergy and reduce total deferred production.

By the end of the program, TAR managers, planners, and engineers will be able to lead multidisciplinary teams to deliver turnarounds on time, within budget, and with zero safety incidents, ensuring the facility is returned to service in peak operational condition.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  • Explain the strategic importance of Turnarounds (TAR) for asset integrity.
  • Define the five phases of the Turnaround Lifecycle.
  • Apply a rigorous "Scoping" process to prevent scope creep.
  • Develop a Master Schedule using the Critical Path Method (CPM).
  • Perform resource leveling and logistics planning for TAR personnel.
  • Manage long-lead item procurement and contractor selection.
  • Integrate well intervention activities into the facility TAR schedule.
  • Implement a robust "Change Management" process during execution.
  • Monitor TAR performance using KPIs (Schedule, Cost, Safety).
  • Lead the "Pre-Shutdown" and "Startup" coordination.
  • Manage the safety and environmental risks of a high-activity TAR site.
  • Conduct a post-TAR review and capture "Lessons Learned."
  • Utilize digital tools and software for TAR planning and tracking.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

Turnaround Managers, Maintenance Planners, Operations Engineers, and Project Managers.

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximise the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
