Production Separators and Three-Phase Separation Fundamentals
| 02 – 06 Feb. 2026, Abu Dhabi | 03 – 07 Aug. 2026, Cairo |
COURSE OVERVIEW:
Separation is the most fundamental process in oil and gas production facilities. This course provides a comprehensive technical grounding in the design, operation, and troubleshooting of two-phase and three-phase separators. Participants will explore the physical principles of gravity separation, droplet coalescence, and gas-liquid equilibrium.
The curriculum covers the internal components of separators, including inlet diverters, mist extractors, and weir plates, explaining how they contribute to efficient separation. Attendees will learn how to size separators for various flow regimes, manage foaming and emulsion issues, and operate control systems for level and pressure. The course emphasizes practical field challenges, such as dealing with solids (sand) and managing carryover.
By the end of the program, operators and engineers will be equipped to optimize separator performance, ensure sales-quality oil and gas, and minimize the risk of downstream equipment damage due to poor separation.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Explain the fundamental principles of phase separation.
- Differentiate between two-phase and three-phase separators.
- Identify and describe the function of all separator internals.
- Size a separator based on gas and liquid flow rates.
- Manage and troubleshoot foaming and emulsion issues.
- Operate level and pressure control systems effectively.
- Diagnose the causes of liquid carryover and gas carry-under.
- Handle solids and sand accumulation in separation vessels.
- Understand the impact of fluid properties (API, Viscosity) on separation.
- Evaluate the benefits of horizontal vs. vertical separators.
- Implement safe startup and shutdown procedures for vessels.
- Conduct inspections and internal maintenance of separators.
- Integrate separation performance with downstream processing.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
Field Operators, Facility Engineers, Production Technicians, and Maintenance Staff.
TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:
A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximise the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.
The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
