Production Chemistry Fundamentals for Field Operations
| 09 – 13 Feb. 2026, Dubai | 02 – 06 Nov. 2026, Abu Dhabi |
COURSE OVERVIEW:
This course is designed to provide field operators and technicians with a practical foundation in the chemical processes occurring within the production stream. Often, chemical issues are first identified by field personnel through changes in pressure, temperature, or fluid appearance. This training empowers staff to recognize these early warning signs and understand the basic "why" and "how" of chemical treatment.
The curriculum simplifies complex chemical concepts into actionable field knowledge. Participants will explore the basics of oil and water separation, the visible signs of scale and corrosion, and the fundamental operation of chemical injection pumps. The course emphasizes the importance of accurate chemical dosing, the safety hazards associated with specific chemicals, and the vital role of correct fluid sampling.
By the end of the program, field personnel will have a clearer understanding of their role in the production chemistry workflow. They will be better equipped to assist engineers in troubleshooting, maintain injection equipment, and operate field facilities in a way that minimizes chemical-related upsets.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Explain the basic chemical components of oil, gas, and produced water.
- Recognize the physical signs of scale, wax, and corrosion in the field.
- Understand why chemicals are injected into the production system.
- Operate and perform basic maintenance on chemical injection pumps.
- Identify the safety hazards of common oilfield chemicals (H2S, Acids, Biocides).
- Perform accurate fluid sampling for laboratory analysis.
- Check and record chemical tank levels and injection rates correctly.
- Recognize the impact of temperature and pressure on chemical effectiveness.
- Assist in the troubleshooting of emulsion and foaming issues in separators.
- Describe the basic function of demulsifiers, inhibitors, and biocides.
- Understand the importance of PPE when handling concentrated chemicals.
- Report chemical-related anomalies to the engineering team.
- Contribute to the safe and environmentally compliant use of chemicals.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
Field Operators, Technicians, Maintenance Staff, and Junior Production Engineers.
TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:
A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximise the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.
The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
