Petroleum Industry Technology and Operations

01 – 05 June 2026, Abu Dhabi24 – 28 Aug. 2026, Abu Dhabi

COURSE OVERVIEW:

The petroleum industry is a massive, technology-driven ecosystem that requires the seamless integration of various engineering disciplines and operational workflows. This course provides a high-level overview of the entire industry, from the initial geological search for hydrocarbons to the sophisticated surface operations required to deliver refined products. Participants will explore the technological innovations—such as 3D seismic, directional drilling, and digital oilfield platforms that have enabled the industry to push into deeper waters and more complex reservoirs.

The curriculum is structured to provide a logical progression through the oil and gas value chain: exploration, drilling, production, and processing. Attendees will learn how reservoir engineers estimate volumes, how drilling teams construct complex wellbores, and how production teams manage the flow of fluids to surface facilities. The course emphasizes the importance of safety and environmental stewardship in modern operations, highlighting how technology is used to minimize the industry’s footprint.

Beyond the technical fundamentals, the course addresses the operational management of petroleum assets. Participants will examine the roles of different technical teams, the importance of maintenance and integrity, and the logistical challenges of operating in remote locations. By the end of the program, attendees will have a holistic understanding of how the industry functions, the technologies that drive it, and the operational excellence required to succeed in a competitive and evolving energy landscape.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  • Describe the major segments of the petroleum industry (Upstream, Midstream, Downstream).
  • Explain the technological evolution of oil and gas exploration.
  • Identify the key components and functions of a modern drilling rig.
  • Understand the basic principles of reservoir engineering and recovery mechanisms.
  • Describe the function of well completion and artificial lift technologies.
  • Identify the main components of surface production and processing facilities.
  • Explain the importance of well integrity and maintenance in field operations.
  • Recognize the role of digitalization and automation in the "Digital Oilfield."
  • Understand the safety and environmental regulations governing industry operations.
  • Describe the logistical challenges of onshore vs. offshore petroleum activities.
  • Explain the basic process of petroleum refining and product distribution.
  • Identify the future technology trends, including carbon capture and renewables.
  • Formulate a basic understanding of industry terminology and jargon.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

This course is ideal for Entry Level Engineers, Technical Support Staff, Government Regulators, and Professionals from other sectors who need a broad technical understanding of the petroleum industry.

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximise the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
