Field Case Studies in Production Optimization and Troubleshooting
| 06 – 10 Apr. 2026, Abu Dhabi | 03 – 07 Aug. 2026, Dubai |
COURSE OVERVIEW:
Field Case Studies in Production Optimization and Troubleshooting is a practical, experience-based program designed to bridge the gap between theoretical engineering and real-world oilfield operations. This course utilizes a diverse collection of actual field scenarios to illustrate how complex production challenges are identified, analyzed, and resolved. By deconstructing real-world successes and failures, participants gain a deeper understanding of the multidisciplinary nature of production optimization, where reservoir, wellbore, and surface facility constraints must be balanced.
The scope of this training involves the systematic application of diagnostic tools and methodologies to improve well productivity and system efficiency. Participants will examine case studies covering a wide range of issues, including liquid loading in gas wells, unexpected water breakthrough, and the sudden failure of artificial lift systems. The curriculum emphasizes the "detective work" required in the oilfield, teaching engineers how to synthesize data from pressure gauges, chemical analyses, and production logs to pinpoint the root cause of production anomalies.
Coverage also extends to the economic evaluation of the solutions implemented in these case studies. Attendees will learn to assess the Return on Investment (ROI) of various optimization interventions, from simple choke adjustments to complex workover operations. By engaging with these documented field experiences, participants will develop a proactive mindset, enabling them to anticipate potential bottlenecks and implement preventative measures in their own assets. This course serves as a masterclass in operational excellence, providing the tools needed to turn data into increased barrels.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Apply a structured troubleshooting workflow to resolve production declines.
- Synthesize multi-source data to diagnose complex wellbore and reservoir issues.
- Evaluate the success of past optimization projects using comparative performance metrics.
- Identify common pitfalls in production data interpretation and allocation.
- Analyze case studies of successful water shut-off and gas-coning mitigation.
- Diagnose causes of underperformance in Electric Submersible Pump (ESP) systems.
- Troubleshoot flow assurance issues using real-time field monitoring data.
- Evaluate the impact of surface facility backpressure on well deliverability.
- Compare different stimulation techniques through post-job production analysis.
- Recognize early warning signs of well integrity failures in mature fields.
- Justify optimization expenditures through detailed cost-benefit case analysis.
- Implement lessons learned from global field examples to local asset management.
- Develop a proactive surveillance plan based on historical troubleshooting trends.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
Production Engineers, Operations Supervisors, Asset Managers, and Technical Personnel involved in the day-to-day management and optimization of producing fields.
TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:
A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximise the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.
The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
