Applied Water Technology in Oil and Gas Production

09 – 13 Feb. 2026, Abu Dhabi10 – 14 Aug. 2026, Abu Dhabi

COURSE OVERVIEW:

Applied Water Technology in Oil and Gas Production addresses the sophisticated engineering and chemistry required to manage the massive volumes of water associated with hydrocarbon extraction. This topic is essential because water management is often the limiting factor for production capacity and environmental compliance. Whether managing water for reservoir pressure support (injection) or treating produced water for disposal or reuse, organizations must deploy advanced technologies to prevent system-wide issues like corrosion, scaling, and microbial fouling that can cripple infrastructure.

The scope of this course covers the entire water lifecycle, from source water treatment and compatibility analysis to the design of separation and filtration systems. Key themes include the management of oil-in-water (OIW) concentrations, the application of chemical inhibitors, and the technical challenges of treating water in offshore and remote environments. By connecting chemical theory with mechanical separation technologies, the syllabus ensures that participants can design and operate water handling systems that meet both production targets and stringent environmental regulations.

Participants will apply the knowledge gained to troubleshoot real workplace challenges such as emulsion stabilization, filter plugging, and poor water quality in injection wells. These applied workflows lead to significant improvements in operational excellence, reducing the risk of reservoir damage and extending the life of surface equipment. By mastering water technology, professionals ensure high-quality production, reliable asset integrity, and continuous compliance with international standards for water discharge and environmental protection.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  • Analyze the chemical and physical characteristics of oilfield waters.
  • Evaluate the compatibility of different water sources to prevent scaling.
  • Design and optimize produced water treatment trains (primary to tertiary).
  • Implement effective corrosion and scale inhibition programs for water systems.
  • Manage microbial activity and biofilm formation in water injection networks.
  • Utilize advanced filtration and membrane technologies for water polishing.
  • Optimize the performance of hydrocyclones, degassers, and IGF units.
  • Monitor and report Oil-in-Water (OIW) concentrations according to regulations.
  • Troubleshoot water quality issues leading to reservoir formation damage.
  • Design water treatment systems for Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD).
  • Evaluate the economics and feasibility of Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD).
  • Manage the environmental risks of water disposal through injection wells.
  • Implement digital monitoring and automated chemical dosing for water systems.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

  • Production Engineers
  • Facilities Engineers
  • Production Chemists
  • Water Treatment Operations Supervisors
  • Environmental Compliance Managers

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximise the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an attendance certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
