Advanced Well Planning and Execution Readiness

02 – 06 Feb. 2026, Abu Dhabi03 – 07 Aug. 2026, Cairo

COURSE OVERVIEW:

Advanced Well Planning and Execution Readiness is a comprehensive engineering and management framework designed to ensure that drilling and completion projects meet their technical objectives safely and within budget. This topic is fundamental because well construction represents the largest capital expenditure in upstream oil and gas operations. A single planning oversight can lead to multi-million dollar cost overruns or compromised well integrity. This course provides the methodologies required to transition from a conceptual well design to a fully optimized, execution-ready plan that incorporates global best practices and technological innovations.

The scope of this course covers the entire well delivery process, including geomechanics, casing design, trajectory optimization, and contingency planning. Key themes include the integration of offset well data, the implementation of "Technical Limit" drilling strategies, and the rigorous assessment of operational risks such as stuck pipe or well control events. The syllabus emphasizes a multidisciplinary approach, ensuring that reservoir requirements are balanced with drilling constraints and completion longevity to maximize the return on investment for the asset.

Participants will apply the knowledge gained to lead "Peer Reviews" and "Drilling the Well on Paper" (DWOP) sessions, ensuring all stakeholders are aligned before the rig moves onto location. These readiness workflows lead to significant efficiency gains, reduced Non-Productive Time (NPT), and enhanced reliability of the final well construction. By mastering execution readiness, professionals ensure that their organizations achieve high-quality wellbore placement and long-term integrity, fulfilling both commercial goals and safety compliance requirements.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  • Lead the multidisciplinary well delivery process from concept to handover.
  • Perform advanced pore pressure and fracture gradient prediction.
  • Optimize well trajectories for torque and drag reduction in ERD wells.
  • Execute rigorous casing and tubing design for HPHT and sour environments.
  • Develop comprehensive well control and emergency response plans.
  • Conduct detailed offset well analysis to identify hazards and technical limits.
  • Manage the procurement and quality assurance of long-lead equipment.
  • Implement "Drilling the Well on Paper" (DWOP) and "Completion the Well on Paper" (CWOP).
  • Utilize Monte Carlo simulations for accurate AFE cost and time estimation.
  • Evaluate the technical and commercial readiness of drilling and service contractors.
  • Design robust cementation programs for zonal isolation in challenging formations.
  • Optimize bit selection and BHA configurations using geomechanical data.
  • Document and communicate the "Basis of Design" and "Detailed Operating Procedures."

TARGET AUDIENCE:

  • Drilling Engineers and Supervisors
  • Well Project Managers
  • Completion Engineers
  • Asset Team Leads
  • Senior Rig Managers

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximise the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an attendance certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
